Reading For Pleasure

What is Reading For Pleasure?

Reading For Pleasure (RFP) is when you read for personal enjoyment and has lots of benefits! At Afifah School, we recognise the importance of RFP, as it has lots of benefits.
Some of which are:

  • Improving vocabulary, language and writing skills.
  • Enhancing imagination and creativity.
  • Relaxation and stress relief.
  • Expanding knowledge and understanding of the world.
  • Developing empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • Providing a source of entertainment and enjoyment.

Healthy Eating

Miss Anam shared this story with our KS1 pupils during assembly on 14th March.

Pupils really enjoyed this book and we all shared a positive message about healthy eating!

The Proudest Blue

Ms Seema shared the book ‘The Proudest Blue’ with our pupils on World Hijab Day in assembly.

The pupils really enjoyed story time and felt proud wearing their beautiful blue hijabs!

Our Briefcase Of Book Recommendations

“If we find a book enjoyable to read, we put it inside the briefcase for other children to take pleasure in reading the book too!”

Our Reading Den

“This is our reading den in the Library. We get to enjoy reading a book in this cosy space each week with our friends.”

Daily Story Time

At Afifah, we have embedded Story Time into our daily timetable.

During Story Time, pupils enjoy a story being read to them by their class teachers.

We also run Reading For Pleasure assemblies which take place on Tuesday mornings for KS1 and Thursday Mornings for KS2. Our RFP assemblies are usually themed to enhance our pupils personal development and improve their mental-health and well-being!
