Our Staff

Our staff help children develop array of skills by combining both care and education and following the appropriate curriculum.  In addition, we have fully qualified staff with a level 2 or level 3 in childcare, alongside qualified first aiders and many other child related qualifications such as food hygiene and child safeguarding. We are committed to offering your child the best of childcare and ensuring they are safe in our nursery.
Your child is allocated a ‘Key Person’, who is responsible for your child’s well being and helping him/her to settle in. The key person will help make your child feel individual, secure and cherished while they are away from you. We believe, a relationship with both the key worker and the parent is important, if you have any issues or questions, your child’s keyworker will be more than happy to answer any queries or concerns.

Parental Involvement

At Afifah we recognise that parents need to feel confident and comfortable with the child care that they choose. To ensure this we operate an ‘open door’ policy, so that parents can discuss any aspect of their child’s care or development at any time with a staff member or a manager. Your child will have a key worker who will act as a special person for your child and will work with you to plan care and provide feedback about your child’s activities at nursery. We provide parents with a daily record slip which allows parents to know about their child’s time at the nursery. We have a Parent’s Information Board in the entrance hall to keep parents up to date with Nursery issues.

The Curriculum

The curriculum at Afifah Nursery covers all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This is comprised of 4 themes. These themes are:-
1. A Unique Child: every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
2. Positive Relationships: children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parent and/or key person.
3. Enabling Environments: children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers.
4. Learning and Development: children develop and learn in different ways and different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. Practitioners teach children by ensuring challenging, playful opportunities across the prime and specific areas of learning and development.
These four guided themes work together to underpin effective practice in the delivery of the EYFS. They put the legal requirements into context, and describe how we at Afifah Nursery support the development, learning and care of your child.

Indoors & Outdoors

At Afifah nursery all play areas are equipped with modern indoor and outdoor equipment and a variety of age appropriate toys that children will enjoy. Our practitioners plan activities for group learning and one to one learning which caters for children’s interests. A variety of resources are used to assist learning as well as trips to local amenities to provide an understanding of the world around them.
Furthermore, we have an outdoor area for children to play in and this is utilised at every opportunity. Within our outdoor area we have small bicycles and a slide for the children to help promote physical activity.
Alongside our many resources and toys for the children to enjoy, it is important for us as an independent Islamic nursery that we promote Islam and Adab (manners) to the children, for example teaching them how to share toys and saying simple words like ‘ jazaakAllah’ and ‘Alhamdulillah.’ Also, they are taught simple Dua’s for them to use for the rest of their life in sha Allah. As well as this, we have a qualified Tajweed teacher who comes in every morning and every afternoon for your child to learn Qur’an. They are taught simple and short Surah’s in a fun and engaging way. Lastly, we teach the children in a group and pray Salah together, in a short and educational manner. The children thoroughly love this and they enjoy reading out loud together and showing what they have learnt.
Nursery staff also carry out regular observations of every child, ensuring your child’s learning and development links with their interests and their needs to help keep them happy. These observations cover all areas of learning according to the Early Years framework, as well as records of special moments, like remembering a Surah or learning how to write. All of your child’s experiences at nursery are recorded in their unique learning journey by their key worker, which can be kept as a memory for many years to come.
